Who does not love beaches and take a dip in the water and enjoy the blue salty water. But this gem has something in store for us which is setting apart. Yes you can drive your car in this beach!!!

This was another spontaneous detour we made on the way from Bangalore to Kerala and it was worth along with the northern coastal areas of Kerala.

Welcome to Muzhappilangadu Drive-In Beach, an extraordinary coastal paradise nestled along the shores of Kerala, India. It is known for being one of the few drive-in beaches in the country, where visitors can drive their vehicles along the shoreline. However, certain regulations and speed limits are enforced to ensure the safety of visitors.

Reaching there

Muzhappilangadu Drive-In Beach is situated about 15 kilometers from Kannur town in the state of Kerala, India. It is located on the western coast of the Arabian Sea. The beach stretches over a length of about 4 kilometers, making it one of the longest drive-in beaches in Asia. It has a wide sandy shore and shallow waters, making it safe for swimming and water sports activities. The beach is surrounded by black rocks, which provide a scenic backdrop.

We had to get the car very cautious to the beach as the approach road was not in good shape. Had a lot of concerns on how hard is the sand etc. Once gathered all strength and got the car to touch water it was all adrenaline and it took over my wife as well who is usually very apprehensive in driving.

Getting lost in waves

One stupid thing I did was parking the car near the water and wandered around for playing in water. When we returned, the car had already sank in the sand and water was till quarter of tire. So please be cautious if parking the car near water.

Muzhappilangadu Drive-In Beach has basic amenities such as parking facilities, restrooms, and food stalls along the shore. The best time to visit the beach is during the winter months, from November to February when the weather is pleasant. It’s advisable to avoid the monsoon season (June to September) as the beach can be affected by heavy rains and rough sea conditions.

No beach experience is complete without savoring the delectable coastal cuisine. Treat your taste buds to mouthwatering dishes like Malabar biryani, Karimeen fry (pearl spot fish), and delectable coconut-based curries. Refresh yourself with coconut water or sip on a tender coconut, a true tropical delight.

Before visiting Muzhappilangadu Drive-In Beach, it’s always a good idea to check for any updated information, rules, and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Check Kerala Tourism site
